Brief Description
Ghent
University is a top 100 university and one of the major universities in
Belgium. Our 11 faculties offer more than 200 courses and conduct in-depth
research within a wide range of scientific domains. Ghent University Global
Campus is also the first European university in Songdo, South Korea.
The Ghent
University scholarship attracts brilliant minds towards Belgium from around the
world. It provides students with practical experience by becoming a vital part
of a diverse community consisting of scholars. It further supports candidates
in augmenting their knowledge through engaging in different research activities
under the mentorship of world-class researchers.
With support from its “Special Research Fund” (BOF) Ghent
University grants PhD “sandwich” scholarships to promising PhD students from
developing countries who wish to carry out half of their PhD research at Ghent
University ('North') and half at a university in a developing country
('South').
Ghent University only finances the part of the research that
will be carried out in Ghent (24 months), the candidate must have full-time
funding for the other 24 months of research to be carried out in the South.
Benefits
of the Ghent University Scholarship program 2022:
Ø The scholarship promoter will be
given a tuition fee of EURO 310 monthly.
Ø EURO 8000 will be awarded including
operational costs and traveling costs for Ghent university promoter, local
promoters, and students.
Eligibility
Criteria of the Ghent University Doctoral Scholarship 2022:
Ø Candidates must belong to a
developing country.
Ø A joint proposal must be submitted by
a candidate, a Ghent university promoter, and a South university promoter.
Ø Research topics should be
development-specific.
Ø Candidates wishing to pursue a joint
PhD degree at Ghent University are encouraged.
Ø Female students are preferred for the
scholarship.

Ø Advice on the candidate, which
declares the supervisor’s opinion regarding the candidate’s capability as a
future researcher.
Ø Advice on the ethical and biosafety
aspect of the research project that is to be proposed.
